The antibody reacts with human E-selectin (endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule 1 (ELAM-1)); CD62E. The antibody reacts, immunohistochemically, with rat pulmonary endothelial cells pretreated with tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha). Antibody produced by CL3 (ATCC CRL-2515), but not CL37 (ATCC CRL-2516), blocks in vitro adherence of neutrophils to TNF alpha-treated endothelial cells and the killing of TNF alpha-treated rat endothelial cells by phorbol ester activated neutrophils. The antibody protects against IgG immune complex-induced rat lung injury by reducing neutrophil accumulation. |

Animals were immunized with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) that had been stimulated with recombinant interleukin-1 (IL-1).
